Fucked Up will be playing a one off show to support The Vaccines at London’s Alexandra Palace on November 17th.
Will The Vaccines be able to handle our Canadian bruisers? Will they escape without being upstaged? Perhaps so, check out their take on the Minor Threat cover of the The Standells’ track “Sometimes Good Guys Don’t Wear White.” They’re even joined on stage by original ‘Threat member Lyle Preslar.
Speaking of gift-giving, Fucked Up are playing “David Comes To Life” in its entirety in Toronto on Dec 20, and organizing a concert the next night with several Toronto bands; both shows are for charity. Details here. There will also be a split holiday 7″ with Sloan, hopefully available at these Toronto shows, limited to just 500, and benefitting the COUNTERfit Harm Reduction Program and the Barriere Lake Legal Defense Fund.
Or maybe you’re planning on going on the Bruise Cruise from Miami to The Bahamas Feb 10-13 2012? Damian is cruise director and you can find more info and a holiday gift exchange video with Fucked Up here:
Oh, what else, what else. Mmmm, did I mention MAYBE THE BEST THING FUCKED UP HAVE EVER RECORDED is coming out Feb 21? Year Of The Tiger (available for pre-order here or here is the latest in their annual zodiac-themed 12″s, and this one features Jim Jarmusch, Annie-Claude Deschênes, and Austra, but mainly 15 minuted of gorgeous epic crescendoing maximalism from our heroes (and that’s just the A-side).
We have a winner for the Fucked Up 7″ Contest. It is – drum rolls please – Steve Wiltse! His collection contained items that some of us in the office could not even identify. Well done, sir.
Steve will now receive a special 1 of 1 copy of Fucked Up’s new Couple Tracks 7″ with himself on the cover (above). Check out Steve’s Fucked Up collection after the jump. It is impressive, to say the least.
We were sitting around Matador World HQ the other day, talking about our favorite hardcore/punk/psychedelic/experimental band and their fans. Fucked Up has some pretty hardcore ones (no pun intended), which makes sense; with a discography as epic as their live show, you too would tend to attract the fanatical types. This got us to thinking: what do you get the Fucked Up fan who already has everything? How about a custom made, one-of-a-kind copy of their new, only-available-at-fine-indie-retailers, Couple Tracks 7″ with YOU on the cover art? If you win this contest, we will add your photo to the outlined area of the cover art above and ship this one of a kind record to your door. Kinda cool, I know.
So how then do you get yourself immortalized on this 1 of 1 Couple Tracks 7″ cover? Simple. Gather together all your Fucked Up singles and display them in some way. Sure, your collection can be laid out on your bed but we’ll look favorably upon people who go the extra mile here. What’s the “extra mile”? Hard to say. Impress us. Feel free to take inspiration from Extreme Ironing. Prove yourself to be worthy of this honor.
Now take a picture of your collection and e-mail it to [email protected] Deadline for entries is midnight on February 6th. How will a winner be chosen? Like pornography, we will know it when we see it. Completeness/a massive collection is important but a generally epic photo is also helpful. Feel free to incorporate other acts of Fucked Up devotion: shirts, LPs, tattoos, children named Damian, etc. Win this contest and you’ll surely be the envy of every other Fucked Up fan at their Fucked Up Saves Music SXSW showcase in March.
