Today on KEXP: Ceremony early, Tanlines late (update: later than expected), good times forever

UPDATE: Tanlines will now be playing live TOMORROW, April 25, at 3:00PM EDT/noon PDT.

Dear faithful radio listener,

Today on Seattle’s KEXP, available on the radio dial at 90.3FM or online at KEXP.org, we have a dynamic duo of artists performing for your edification and enlightenment.

In just under half an hour, Rohnert Park, CA’s Ceremony, fresh off opening for Refused and playing an UNPRECEDENTED 16+ show at Mercury Lounge last night, will be rocking and rolling the airwaves with soothing sounds from their latest opus, Zoo (available for purchase here). Tune in at 12:30PM EDT/9:30AM PDT.

Later today, at 4:30PM EDT/1:30PM PDT, Tanlines, who did not open for Refused last night but surely would have killed it if they had, will be performing live in the KEXP studios. Due to border issues (thanks a lot, Canada), Tanlines must needs reschedule their KEXP session. They will now take to the live airwaves tomorrow, April 25, at 3:00PM EDT/noon PDT. Their new album is called Mixed Emotions, the video for the song “All Of Me” is above, and you should make a point of purchasing the former and enjoying the latter.

There are a few more chances to catch Tanlines on tour, don’t sleep:

4/24/12 Seattle, WA @ Barboza
4/25/12 Portland, OR @ Doug Fir Lounge
4/27/12 San Francisco, CA @ Rickshaw Stop

Ceremony “Adult” Video Premiere

Today Spin premieres the new video for Ceremony‘s affecting “Adult,” off their album “Zoo.” Directed by BRV BLK BRD, aka Adrien Colón, the video explores the song’s theme of retaining the passions and vitality of youth amid the orthodoxy of adulthood.

For a look at the band themselves from last week’s SXSW shows (where Stereogum voted them “Best Haircut“), check out the vivid photographic documentation from some of our favorite sites:

Ceremony on WNYU’s Crucial Chaos tonight at 9:00PM EDT

(Flyer by Aldona Watts. Click here for a neat animated/audio version by Noah Venezia.)

Normally I’d expand upon the subject line but really the only thing you need to know that’s not on the above flyer is that you can listen online at wnyu.org.

Hopefully those of you who are in Austin already know that you can and should see Ceremony at the following shows:

Friday, March 16, Brooklyn Vegan / Power of the Riff / Thrasher / Converse “Death Match”, Scoot Inn, 1308 E. 4th St. , 2pm (free)

Saturday, March 17, Mess With Texas, outside stage,  1105 E. 5th St., 2:45pm (free)
Saturday, March 17, Flower Booking Presents at Red 7, 611 E. 7th St., 8pm (official SXSW showcase, badges and wristbands get priority)

If you’re stuck in whatever crummy burg you call home, though, tune in to Crucial Chaos tonight and get a taste of what you’re missing.

Matador & True Panther Sounds In Austin, TX This Week

Notice how careful I was not to use the trademarked brand-name, S—- By S——–?  That’s because the several of the events below require neither a badge nor a wristband to attend.  We’ve helpfully pointed out the exceptions, however.  As always, we’re thrilled to bits to taking part, even in the tiniest of ways, in this great annual rock biz circle jerk (that sometimes features former members of the Circle Jerks) and on behalf of my fellow Austin residents, I’d like to welcome you to America’s most self-satisfied Live Music Parking Lot Capitol.

This doesn’t mean, however, you can come over to my house.

Some top quality anti-marketing

Rough Trade employee Sean Forbes is currently taking part in the new Vice/Noisey feature ‘Record Store Dude’, whereby they feature ‘those in the know’ giving you the low-down on whats really happening, from their perspective on the other side of the counter.  So far this year he’s been kind enough to publicly trash both Fucked Up’s Year Of the Tiger, and now the Ceremony album, Zoo.

Let Sean’s advice help you to sift through the rubbish currently out there and uncover the real gems of the moment… like Lana Del Ray and the Ting Tings.

Listen to Ceremony ‘Zoo’ in its entirety + NYC date with Refused announced

[edit: In other awesome Ceremony news, we’re happy to announce that they’ll be playing at NYC’s Terminal 5 on April 23 with Refused! All dates below]

Spin Magazine’s recently facelifted online presence is presenting you with the ability to listen to Ceremony‘s forthcoming rager ‘Zoo‘, in it’s entirety — a week before it’s in stores. They call it “feral”, we agree. Check it out over at SPIN and be sure to grab it on March 6 when it hits all the world’s digital & physical retailers.

LISTEN TO ‘ZOO’ at SPIN

Reminder to vinyl fans, if you pick the album up at a indie retailer, your LP might be in limited edition green, while if you grab it at one of Ceremony’s upcoming shows (after the jump), it’ll be blue. It’s also not too late to grab one of the t-shirt + “Adult” 7″ bundles.

Intended Play 2012 – For The Vinyl-Phobic Amongst, The Price Just Dropped From $2 To Free

(I really don’t see the resemblance)

Back in early January WE SHOCKED THE MUSIC WORLD with news of a $1.98 Matador/True Panther Sounds sampler LP including (mostly) new songs from The Young, Ceremony, Lee Ranaldo Tanlines, Perfume Genius, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, Fucked Up, Girls, Cold Cave, Esben and The Witch and Kurt Vile. It’s come to our attention that a) there’s a few stragglers out there who’ve yet to order this limited edition LP, and b) some of you either trashed your record players or simply prefer music in digital form.

So here’s the deal — you can still order the vinyl version from The Matador Store or hound your local retailer who might’ve filed it in THE $2 BIN.  Failing that, here’s a free download of the entire compilation. You’re welcome!

V/A – Intended Play (zip)

Listen to “Adult”, a new track from Ceremony

“Somewhere I saw faces and hands fighting for space on a clock / It didn’t show time being precious as silver and gold / Proving us we’re wrong all of us move on / We go for a ride we slow down and die / We have to give up the things we love sometimes”

Adult” is the third track we’re sharing with you from Ceremony new album ‘Zoo’, out March 6. You’ll find it opening the b-side to Zoo, as well as on its very own 7″ (backed with non-album track, “Start Over”), available bundled with the album if you pre-order now.

Ceremony – “Adult” (192kbps mp3)

‘Zoo’ is out March 6 at your favorite brick-and-mortar record stores and digital retailers. As an added bonus, if you pick up the album at an independent record shop, you might find it on limited green vinyl (500 pressed), whereas if you pick up a copy from the band on tour (dates below), your LP might be blue (300 pressed) Pre-order copies on red vinyl (300 pressed) are long gone — but we’re still offering these t-shirt + 7″ bundles.

Matador/True Panther radio action(s) for Friday, February 3

Connoisseurs of live radio performance have a great deal on their plate today, and you have us to thank for it.

Seattle singer/songwriter (and star of the year’s most controversial ad so far) Perfume Genius performs live on hometown station KEXP today at 2:00PM EST/11:00AM PST. Listen at 90.3FM or online at kexp.org, and pre-order the new Perfume Genius album, Put Your Back N 2 It, here.

Also this afternoon, Girls return to the World Cafe studios to play some songs from last year’s world-beating sophomore album, Father, Son, Holy Ghost. The show starts at 2:00PM EST/11:00AM PST, and can be heard at 88.5FM in Philadelphia, or online at xpn.org. Can’t catch the session when it airs? It’ll be on NPR’s website later in the day, and you can also find out when your local public radio station airs World Cafe at this link. And while you’re here, you might as well pick up a copy of Father, Son, Holy Ghost for yourself, or for a treasured friend.

Finally, the aforementioned Ceremony live session on WNYU starts at 5:00PM EST/2:00PM PST and is not to be missed. Don’t forget to pre-order their upcoming album, Zoo, right here.

Ceremony live on WNYU’s New Afternoon Show tomorrow

We’ve gone on a bit about this Saturday’s completely bonkers all-ages Ceremony show at New York City’s Le Poisson Rouge (which is now SOLD OUT), but what we haven’t told you until literally this very moment is that tomorrow, February 3, WNYU’s New Afternoon Show will be hosting a live performance by Rohnert Park’s finest. They’ll be playing songs from their upcoming album, Zoo (pre-order here), and maybe some golden oldies for good measure. Tune in to 89.1FM or listen online at wnyu.org at 5:00PM EST.

Ceremony – New album Zoo out in March, listen to Hysteria

Rohnert Park, California’s CEREMONY will be releasing their fourth album, entitled Zoo, on March 6, 2012. Working with producer John Goodmanson, the band have refined their jagged sound while continuing to pursue themes of exurban alienation and confinement. Their previous three albums on the Malfunction and Bridge 9 labels are widely seen as the most compelling, unusual and progressive hardcore of the last five years, and we are incredibly excited to be working with them.

Back in December, we announced the 7″ of “Hysteria,” the lead track on the album, backed with the non-LP Urinals cover “I’m A Bug.” Now you can listen to an MP3 of “Hysteria” here:

Hysteria (192k mp3)

Also coming out on March 6 will be the second single from the album, “Adult” backed with the non-album original song “Start Over.” You can preorder it separately, or as part of one of the complicated bundle deals below.

The first 300 copies of Zoo will be on red vinyl exclusively for webstore preorders, and the first 200 copies of “Adult” will be on clear. These have already sold out. Orders going forward will get black vinyl.

Look for an announcement very soon: there’s going to be a special NYC event happening in early February.
