A.C. Newman’s Theme for NBC’s “Perfect Couples”

Our man, Carl Newman (A.C. Newman, The New Pornographers Maestro) wrote a 20 second theme song for the new NBC show, “Perfect Couples” that officially premieres tonight at 8:30pm between “The Office” and “Community”.

If there’s one night for you to watch TV, this is it. TV is good.

Yet another shining example of bringing together fine music and comedy.
A.C. Newman joined (far left) Dave Hill, host of the Dave Hill Explosion, Carl Arnheiter (in elf hat), and Brett Gelman (as many New Yorkers know as “Little Bit o’Luck” which can’t be easy when he’s at the deli) as special musical guest at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade theater last night. Carl sang “Get Guilty” and “Drink to Me, Babe, Then” and then gets interviewed about his Canadianness, the burning question being Triumph or Rush, and which of Carl’s two bands brings him most pleasure. This is all after the audience gets assaulted by party poppers, flying chocolates, a midget wrestling Dave with nunchucks, and a song and dance by Mr. Hill. It was certainly a night of holiday cheer and man love.

Stevie (Jackson) and Chris (Geddes) of Belle and Sebastian

In support of the BBC sessions that came out Tuesday, Stevie and Chris go deep in discussing the Belle and Sebastian’s early years…1996 (the year the band formed) to 2001 (the year Bobby replaced Stuart David as guitarist/bassist). And so much more…

Fucked Up Album Preorder, Fuck Yeah Fest And Tour

Fucked Up’s second album, ‘The Chemistry Of Common Life,’ will be in stores on October 7. The record synthesizes their numerous musical directions into an expansive epic about the mysteries of birth, death, and the origins of life (and re-living). Merging elements of hardcore riffage with up to 70 tracks of guitars, organs, winds and vocals, (including 18 guitars on the first single, the fatalistic “No Epiphany”), the music remains iconoclastic and startling, with Pink Eyes’ vocals front and center. Guest musicians, of course, abound, notably gorgeous female voices such as Brooklyn’s Vivian Girls and Toronto’s Katie Stelmanis. The perspective is idiosyncratically scientific: amid soaring guitar chords, the title track pays homage to the random chemical processes that created life on this planet. Though Fucked Up remain punks at heart – if quixotically diverse ones – they have created a great, weird, heavy record that stubbornly sticks in your brain and your heart.

Track listing:

1. Son The Father
2. Magic Word
3. Golden Seal
4. Days Of Last
