Steve Gunn : New Video, New Global Tour…And Oh Yeah, He Just Signed To Matador

(photo of Ruby and Steve by Nathan Salsburg)

It’s with considerable excitement this morning that we can announce Steve Gunn has signed to Matador. The Brooklyn based guitarist / songwriter’s recent recordings for the Paradise Of Bachelors and Three Lobed Recordings labels have made him a critical favorite around the globe, though he’s held in equally high esteem by much of our office, roster, etc. A onetime member of Kurt Vile’s Violators, Gunn’s acoustic and electric work checked off the virtuosity and invention boxes (not necessarily in that order) some time ago, while his recent ‘Way Out Weather’ album (POB) has brought him to his widest audience to date (hailed by NPR’s Max Savage Levenson as “the completion of Gunn’s transformation from a master guitarist into a songwriter who can trust in his own voice and arrangements as much as his spectacular fretwork”). Collaborations with artists including but not limited to Mike Cooper, Black Twig Pickers and Ed Askew have also established Gunn as that rare artist with equal footing in the rock, folk and avant spheres. He’ll be making a number of appearances in and around SXSW this March prior to his trio opening a series of big barn dates for Wilco, followed by a rather ambitious worldwide touring schedule (see below)

The above video for “Wildwood” (from ‘Way Out Weather’) premiered earlier today via Paste.
