Pavement — Brighten The Corners: Nicene Creedence Ed.

November 18 will see the release of Mark IV in our series of deluxe reissues of the original Pavement albums. Brighten The Corners: Nicene Creedence Ed. sports the amazing packaging and deep contents that you’ve seen in our previous three deluxe editions. Like the first three editions, released every 2 years since 2000, this package treats Pavement’s fourth album right, with two CDs containing the entire 1997 record, remastered from the original tapes, plus all the B-sides and compilation tracks from that period, and a plethora of unreleased live and studio tracks as enumerated below. The CDs come in an embossed slipcase with a 62-page perfect-bound book containing photos, ephemera, writings and more. (The record will be out on Domino in Europe and Matador everywhere else.)

Matador will be doing a Buy Early Get Now promotion for this record, and the extras will be very special indeed. We‘ll be announcing that shortly have announced that now , so keep your eyes on this space

  1. wow, i used to have an uber-shitty tape of that kcrw session. there’s also a version of the vu’s “what goes on” from that set. great set of extras!

  2. this is gonna be great, but why include these:
    21. Harness Your Hopes – Spit On A Stranger B-side
    22. Roll With the Wind – Spit On A Stranger B-side

    no TT reissue?

  3. I was just thinking about it this morning and a few hours later it’s posted! Next thought: I’m going to win the lottery.

  4. “Looks like all the Terror Twilight b-sides are on here. So much for a reissue of that one?”

Not all. We only included the ones that appeared later but were recorded in 1996 during the Brighten The Corners sessions. For example, “Stub Your Toe” and “Decouvert De Soleil” are not included as they were recorded in the Terror Twilight era.

As for a TT reissue. Well, I’d buy one.

  5. So are they just bailing on the Terror Twilight release? So much stuff from Spit on a Stranger, etc. I was hoping to see what else Nigel Godrich got from them…

  6. would be interesting to know why the rest of the KCRW stuff couldn’t be included, and ‘maybe maybe’ was. it’s a good version, but the missing 3 tracks were all much more interesting, in my opinion… maybe that’ll be explained in the liner notes or something.

  7. Yo Up Pavement nerds !!! Got em all already ! Hope there’s something cool in the buy early… That Peel session is great tho, Grave Arch on there way better than the album version. Etc.

  8. wow, fantastic choice. and if the record company is looking for
fantastic live material from that area, please send an email.
i have more than two handful of soundboard tapes from 1997.

  9. These B-sides are the shit. Cherry Area and I WANNA F AROOOOOUUUUUNNNNDDD!!!

Now I can stop bugging my friend, who borrowed about 7 years ago, to give me back my original copy of BTC. I saw him the other day and he said he didn’t have it. Bollocks.

  10. ‘No tan lines’ is probably the best Pavement B-side of all time.

The Peel session is a great one, especially ‘The Classical’:

Steve: ‘okay now, let’s take a very safe run through a song – you know the one’

    Scott: ‘an old family favorite!’

  11. aural exploits sent me an email saying matador was also issuing a bonus live VINYL lp from the brighten the corners tour as a bonus for buy early get now!!! yes!!!!!!!!

  12. looks like there will be a live VINYL lp (from the brighten the coners era) thrown in by matador for preordering the deluxe edition!
this is according to aural exploits!!!! yes!!!!

  13. ‘For Sale! The Preston School of Industry’ is an amazing song. I can’t wait for this re-issue to come out.

  14. Is there anyway I can still get that LP or is it lost from my grasps for ever? I haven’t had the money at all until NOW, and now the live LP is gone :(. What the heck do I do now?

  15. It saddens me to know that For Sale! The Preston School Of Industry is never going to get on a proper record now. It’s an absolutely incredible song.
