Paul Banks Drops Mixtape featuring El-P, High Prizm, Mike G and Talib

By Adam F on Friday, January 25th, 2013

Just in from the department of unexpectedness…. Banks (no, not Lloyd) has upped a mixtape and it’s called EVERYBODY ON MY DICK LIKE THEY SUPPOSED TO BE.

Actually, we kinda knew this was happening.  Paul sent over a rough mixtape about 9 months ago of his beats and production and it was genius. And what, with all the Kendricks and the A$APs and whatever, we thought a mixtape would take Banks to new heights if we got it out months before release.

But the long-standing issues with Matador and the rap game quickly blew up our pre-release hype strategy.  Long story short, we have earned a certain “cash-only” rep in the hip hop world requiring us to either send briefcases handcuffed to interns to studios deep in Flatbush or…. call in favors which takes time.

In this case, Paul called in a some mega-favors and got features from El-P, Talib, Mike G, and… hold up, HIGH PRIZM (né High Priest).

(Programming note, I’ve spent the entire morning doing things to all sorts of websites that we aren’t ever allowed to do.  I AM DARKTOOB. And I feel like Dean Bein.)

Listen to the whole thing over on Soundcloud:

The El-P cut entitled “Quite Enough” has been excerpted for those needing “an entry point”.

Paul Banks reschedules New York show for December 14

By Patrick on Monday, November 12th, 2012

Paul Banks is rescheduling his New York show at Webster Hall, originally set for November 13, to December 14. Paul’s statement is below.

Hello to all,

Regrettably, we are going to postpone the Nov 13th Webster Hall show.
The show will be rescheduled for December 14th.
Tickets that have already been purchased are of course valid, or refundable.

Needless to say, we were VERY excited about rocking out for our hometown crowd. But it will just have to wait.

Basically, Sandy managed to disrupt the preparations that are necessary to put on a good concert.

Again, I apologize for any inconvenience this causes any of you.

But I hope to see you ALL in December. You bring your cherubic faces, and I will bring the rock.

Best,
Paul Banks

Pending apocalypse or not, Paul Banks will be performing tonight on CBS’s “Late Show With David Letterman” (11:30 pm, eastern US, 10:30 central). Dave’s other guests are Denzel Washington and Pauley Perrette.  The former is unlikely to be asked any questions about “Heart Condition”, but if that really bothers you so much, go start your own talk show.

Paul Banks Playing Complex CMJ Event – Judgment Night

By Adam F on Friday, October 5th, 2012

Big ups to Blake Thomas for reminding us of one of the greatest conference room marketing ideas ever to come to fruition, the Judgment Night soundtrack.

And in this spirit, Complex is throwing a big party at The House of Vans in Brooklyn on Thursday, October 18.   It is called “Judgment Night” and will feature two stages across from each other trading blows… rap vs. rock.  Our very own Paul Banks is headlining the rock stage with Action Bronson closing the night out. Check out the line-up, including Alchemist DJ’ing all night, Purrp, Ratking and the very awesome Savages, who are playing one of their very first shows in the US.

And don’t forget to check out the big Paul Banks show featuring 98% less rap on November 13 at Webster Hall.  Tickets available here.

And as a last reminder, watch the Paul doc, it’s rad.

Coming October 23 : The New Paul Banks album, ‘Banks’

By The Management on Monday, August 6th, 2012

On October 23, Matador will release the 2nd solo album from Interpol vocalist/guitarist Paul Banks.  With ‘Banks’ (LP/CD/digital), Paul ditches the Julian Plenti alter-ego, and the resulting 10-song album is a tour-de- force of exhilarating minor-key intensity.

The Base (192 kbps MP3)

Banks was recorded in New York and Connecticut with producer Peter Katis (Interpol, The National, Shearwater, Jónsi…).  The album is  personal and epic, catchy and serpentine – much like your favorite Interpol albums – with Paul’s wry humor, bare emotion, and varied influences all in full effect.

track listing :

1. The Base
2. Over My Shoulder
3. Arise, Awake
4. Young Again
5. Lisbon
6. I’ll Sue You
7. Paid For That
8. Another Chance
9. No Mistakes
10. Summertime Is Coming

Important Festival News (For Those Who Mysteriously Fail To Read Other Music/News Sites)

By Gerard on Friday, July 13th, 2012

If you’re like us (and I suspect you are), YOU LOVE MUSIC FESTIVALS almost as much as you love freedom. And there’s so many that are close to our hearts.  Matador’s Lost Weekend.  Atlamont.  The Gathering Of The Juggalos.  The Cornerstone Festival.  I could go on, but you’ve probably got some illegal downloading to back to, so let’s cut to the chase. Transmission Entertainment’s 7th annual Fun Fun Fun Festival is happening in Austin, TX this coming November 2, 3 and 4, and we’re thrilled to find out at the last minute announce Tanlines, Fucked Up, Paul Banks and The Young are all taking part.

Likewise,  ATP America’s “I’ll Be Your Mirror” weekender (September 21-23) has been moved from Asbury Park, NJ to the glamorous West Side of Manhattan.  The Lee Ranaldo Band and Chavez will be playing, along with a tremendous lineup of performers, none of whom are named Louis C.K.   They’ll all have their hands full measuring up to Richie Blackmore at California Jam (above) , but there’s no harm in trying.
