‘GLASS BOYS’ IS OUT NOW, WATCH MINI-DOC FEATURING MANY FAMILIAR FACES

By Rian on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014

This week will be the three year anniversary of David Comes to Life, and with that marker, Fucked Up today release the life-affirming and personal glimpse into how far the band has come with ‘Glass Boys‘. Two versions of the record are available for your pleasure. Check out the 1/2 speed drums on ‘Slow Boys’ (available as a bonus LP w/ early pressings of ‘Glass Boys’).

To celebrate this release, we have a few new things from the band for you today. Watch without much comment, a mini-documentary directed by Andy Capper and Scott Pierce, featuring many familiar faces:

Official video for “Sun Glass” (also directed by Andy Capper)

The band have also put together a playlist (the first of many to come) titled ‘Other Side of the Looking Glass Boys’ on Rdio. You can listen to that HERE. Here is what Jonah Falco had to say about the playlist:

“Mostly for these mixes i’ve tried to find songs which are equivalent to the musical thematics on the record more than the lyrical ones. The notes, the feels, the registers, and the sensations. But the good thing about the eternity of pop culture is that usually when guided in certain directions culturally, the brain tends to mine the same emotions and conclusions throughout the ages. This doesn’t have anything to do with being unimaginative, but more to do with the often vast ideological unity of rock and roll.

Glass Boys, vaguely distilled, is a record about looking back while trying to move forward. All of this music is from the past, but you should listen to it in the present and think of it as contemporary. If you’re patient enough to want to pay close attention, I think you’ll find a few cheeky similarities between grooves, riffs, and themes. If not, you’ve still got ten reasons to dance.”

FUCKED UP – “Led By Hand” (2nd Track from The Upcoming ‘Glass Boys’), New Tour Dates

By Gerard on Tuesday, April 29th, 2014

Earlier this morning, “Led By Hand”, the 2nd song leaked/dropped etc. from  Fucked Up’s upcoming ‘Glass Boys’ LP/CD/digital album —the band’s 4th full-length and the eagerly anticipated followup to  2011’s ‘David Comes To Life’ — was posted to the band’s site.  You can obtain an MP3 download of the song by following Fucked Up’s frantic-yet-highly-insightful Twitter account (@fuckedup).  Featuring a vocal cameo by J Mascis, “Led By Hand” is another taste of what caused one (highly) seasoned observer to say, “where previous albums fucked with your head, ‘Glass Boys’ fucks with your heart.”

To which I can only add, I think this one fucks with your head, too.

Order ‘Glass Boys’ in the format of your choice with a limited edition tote bag, available exclusively from The Matador Store.

Coming June 3 : Fucked Up’s ‘Glass Boys’

By Gerard on Tuesday, March 18th, 2014

(filmed by Scott Cudmore & Jeremy Jansen)

On June 3, Matador will be releasing the new album from Toronto’s FUCKED UP, ‘Glass Boys’ on LP, compact disc and digital download.

“Paper The House”
– MP3

Fucked Up’s ‘Chemistry Of Common Life’ (2008 and ‘David Comes To Life’ (2011) were as conceptually ambitious as any rock albums in recent memory ; ‘Glass Boys’ while a more personal work in terms of subject matter, is the result of 13 months spent in a succession of U.S. and Canadian studios with the assistance of Bill Skibbe and Leon Taheny.  But while we’re tempted to make a very big deal about how amazing the recording is (the guitar trio of Mike Haliechuk, Ben Cook, and Josh Zucker have delivered their most powerful & multi-dimensional performances to date), the real story’s in the songs : with vocalist Damian Abraham leaving-it-all-on-the-floor (apologies for the sports analogy), Fucked Up are tackling tougher questions about themselves, their lives and where this is all going.    Our modestly compensated blurb author called ‘Glass Boys’, “a blazing, titanic, ultimately triumphant rock album…a heart-expanding, life-affirming piece of work.”  I still need to check what WebMD says about heart-expansion, but other than that, I think he nailed it.

Preorder the album now from the Matador Store. A limited double vinyl edition of the album available through the Matador store and independent retailers will include a bonus LP that features Jonah Falco’s half-time drums ( two separate drum tracks were recorded for ‘Glass Boys’, one of them in half-time — if that sounds kinda complex, wait ’til you hear both at the same time).

We’re also offering ‘Glass Boys’ in the format of your choice with a limited edition tote bag, available exclusively from The Matador Store.
