NEW CAT POWER THINGS (video, dates, tv)

Not too long ago, Chan Marshall & director Greg Hunt grabbed a flatbed and filmed the music video from one of ‘Sun”s many highlights, “Manhattan” . Watch the video below, or at catpowermusic.com. In it, Chan visits some of the haunts she’s been frequenting since the early stages of Cat Power, as well as some of the locales essential to her musical foundation. Whether or not they secured a MOFTB film permit, well, I’m in no position to answer that.

On tomorrow’s (Friday, 4/4) episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Cat Power backed by The Roots will take to the stage to perform a rendition of “Manhattan”. Early next week she’ll kick off the new season of Later… With Jools Holland with a live performance that we’ve heard will be extra-special.

That’s not it. We’re excited to share a slew of new Cat Power tour dates, taking the band through North & South America and across Europe. We’ll see you out!

Cat Power postpones European tour

Cat Power has postponed her upcoming European tour dates due to health reasons, giving the following statement:

“As many of my fans know, I’ve been suffering from angioedema. It can attack at random & is extremely frightening and dangerous when it hits my throat, windpipe, or tongue, and I’ve been hospitalized for it eight times since the first attack, 2 DAYS AFTER MY RECORD RELEASE. Since then, I worked very very hard with all the best allergists, cardiologists, neurologists, accupuncurists, homeopathists & renowned healers that I could find, Body Talk, Reiki, Yoga, etc. so that I COULD DO THIS AMERICAN TOUR. I did my best & I want to do MORE & BETTER.
The American tour has been wonderful and amazing, and with me being unable to AFFORD to bring my show with full production, (which i helped create) to Europe, financially, really dumped a huge additional amount of stress on me as i was and still am fighting trying to get tour support.
I have to postpone my European tour until early next year, so I can return home and re-engage myself back into my health regimen.
I fucking love my fans. Everything I do regarding my career, I FIRST, think of my fans and this world we all share. But right now, I HAVE TO think of myself because I have to learn trough meditation & being clear from alcohol & cigarettes & red meat and lots of rest amongst my menagerie of doctors…. I have to think of MYSELF right now because I have to now LEARN to heal myself. Through that, I can learn to help others to heal themselves. I know my fans will understand and I thank them and love them much more than I believe they could ever know. I am here and do what I do, for them and because of them. You have kept me alive this long, I refuse to give up on you OR MYSELF. And that goes to all the journalists who write a true story as well. To you all in the struggle. May light be on your path at every step.”

The tour dates affected are below.  Refunds for tickets can be obtained from the point of purchase.

November 26 – Amsterdam, Paradiso

November 29 – Berlin, Huxleys
November 30 – Hamburg, Grosse Freiheit 36

December 6 – Zurich, Volkshaus

Cat Power teaser, long-form film to come

Here is a short teaser for a long-form film I’m making for Cat Power. The
film stars Jade and Hazel Altheide, two female teenage BMX riders who live
just outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico. As you will see they both totally
rip. This production has a pretty funny story actually. On a Thursday
morning in September I got a call from Gaby Basora, who designs a really
cool fashion line from New York called Tucker.  I had never met Gaby or
her team before. They proceeded to tell me about these two girls they had
heard about in New Mexico who ride BMX bikes and how they were great and
really stylish and would I be interested in going to make a movie about
them. There was a catch though. We needed to start shooting the next day!
None of us had ever met Jade and Hazel or their family, and really had no
idea what the landscape in New Mexico would be like, but heck, I’m always
down for an adventure. I agreed to do it and the next morning we were on a
plane with cameras and gear to go shoot this movie. I had no idea what it
was gonna be.

Cat Power NOTHIN’ BUT TIME (Teaser) by Aaron Rose from Aaron Rose on Vimeo.

When we arrived, we met the Altheide family, quickly got our gear together
and hit the trails. All I can say is wow! The girls were absolutely
beautiful and the surrounding landscape (as you can see) was beyond
magnificent. Coincidentally, as we were making this, Cat Power had
Just dropped her new record SUN. I was listening to it on the rental car
Radio as we cruised through the mountains of New Mexico and it just really
fit the vibe of what we were making. If you’ve ever been to NM, you know
How much sun they have…TONS! The song featured in this video is called
“Nothin’ But Time” and I think it just fits perfectly. The way Chan screams
“I wanna live!” just fits the freedom of jumping bikes and bombing down
hills so perfectly. It was a match made in heaven. The upcoming long-form
film will include the entire eleven minute version of “Nothin’ But Time”.
We’re making it now. So excited to get this out. Stay tuned.
