There is nothing like a Dane: Lower and Iceage on the radio today

Copenhagen is better-represented than usual on the nation’s airwaves today, with Lower and Iceage making near-simultaneous appearances at two of the finer college radio stations to which you could ever hope to listen (in my humble opinion).

First off, we have Lower performing live on Radio K, which at this point has to be considered only a notch or two below Prince when it comes to Minneapolis institutions. Listen online at RadioK.org, or on their trio of radio frequencies (770AM, 100.7FM and 104.5FM) if you live in the Twin Cities, starting at 4:30PM EDT/3:30pm CDT.

Shortly thereafter, at around 5:00PM EDT, Iceage will be waltzing into the studio at New York’s WNYU for an appearance on the always vital New Afternoon Show to talk about their just-released album, Plowing Into The Field Of Love, and spin some tunes. WNYU.org is the URL, 89.1FM is the frequency.

Last Friday’s DARKSIDE session for KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic went so well that we thought hey, why not do that again, but further north? And so it is that Nicolas and Dave will be going on the air live at Seattle’s KEXP in just under half an hour (2pm EST/11am PST, to be exact). Listen online at KEXP.org, or in Seattle at 90.3FM.

Yo La Tengo live at Oregon Public Broadcasting

The radio listeners of America and the world have been treated to a wealth of amazing Yo La Tengo instudio session activity in 2013, and the newest is one of their best yet. Recorded at Oregon Public Broadcasting in Portland, the session is quiet, contemplative, and beautiful (as seen in the above performance of “Cornelia & Jane”). And then Ira lays down yet another amazing guitar solo on the closer, “Ohm.” Check out the whole session at opbmusic.org.

Savages KEXP session video online now

Last month, Savages visited KEXP before a Seattle show to play a live session. The video of that session is now online thanks to KEXP and NPR Music, and it’s just as amazing as you’d expect. Watch “City’s Full” above, and check out the full session at NPR Music.

Savages’ debut album, Silence Yourself, can be had in all the popular formats of the day at our webstore.

Kurt Vile live on WXPN tonight

Attentive readers will remember that a few weeks ago I promised more details on a mysterious opportunity to once again here Kurt Vile strut his stuff on hometown station WXPN. The time for more details, and strutting, has arrived. TONIGHT, at 9:25PM EDT, Kurt will take to the stage at World Cafe Live to play a special solo set as part of the annual Non-Commvention (Where the AAA Radio Elite Meet to Get Hammered). If you find yourself unlucky enough to not be employed in the field of non-commercial radio (which, all kidding aside, is a pretty great field, as fields go), I encourage you to visit xpn.org or 88.5FM in the City of #BROLO (as the kids say), and give KV your full attention.

(The kids do say that, right?)

Savages on KXLU’s Part Time Punks today!

Today’s webcast isn’t the only chance far-flung fans have to partake in Savages live goodness. Today KXLU’s Part Time Punks will be debuting a live session the band recorded in LA last month. Tune in from 3pm to 6pm Pacific (6pm to 9pm Eastern) for all the Savages action you love, plus a pretty snazzy radio show in general. Online listeners can listen at KXLU.com, and Angelenos can point their tuning apparatus to 88.9FM.

Kurt Vile live on WXPN tomorrow/in the future

It sure looks like Philadelphia’s WXPN is sold on native son Kurt Vile. Tune in to their airwaves on any given day and you’re quite likely to hear Kurt’s new album, Wakin On A Pretty Daze, spilling forth from your speakers, and tomorrow you can hear the man himself spilling forth thusly, live on air from World Cafe Live as part of the Free At Noon series. I would tell you what time it starts, but it’s called “Free At Noon.” What do you want, a map? Listen at xpn.org or 88.5FM.

Kurt and the Violators will be returning to the XPN airwaves next month, as part of the Non-Commvention on May 15. More on that later.

Savages live on KEXP today

If you heard a low, persistent rumbling coming from the West Coast last weekend, chances are it had something to do with Savages’ performance at Coachella, which may not have had R. Kelly but more than made up for it in fist-pumping intensity according to at least one well-known source. Understandably many of you were unable to make it out to the desert to check them out, so I humbly suggest you listen to KEXP this afternoon at 4:00PM EDT/1:00PM PDT for the band’s first ever U.S. radio performance. Listen online at KEXP.org or on the radio in Seattle at 90.3FM.

And hey, since you’re already here, why not pre-order the debut Savages album, Silence Yourself, at our webstore?
