Tonight : Courtney Barnett, Kurt Vile & The Sea Lice on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert”

Courtney Barnett, Kurt Vile & The Sea Lice make their (collaborative) national TV debut tonight at 11:35 pm (eastern) on CBS’ “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert”. Colbert’s other guests tonight are Whoopi Goldberg and Katheryn Hahn. I remain hopeful the former will be asked to confirm or deny plans for a sequel to this 1996 classic, but experienced talk show hosts know how to do their jobs without further interference.

Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile : KCRW Session Today, Amoeba Hollywood Instore Thursday ‘Sea Lice By The Seaside’ Webcast Next Monday,

We’re a few days away from the release of Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile’s hotly anticipated collaboration album, ‘Lotta Sea Lice’ and as you’d expect, they’re an insane amount of activity surrounding this momentous event. After a Sunday afternoon set at San Francisco’s Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival the duo visit KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic for a live broadcast starting at 11:15am pacific time TODAY. Thursday, there’s a free show at Hollywood’s Amoeba Records, who’ve somehow managed to obtain copies of ‘Lotta Sea Lice’ one day early. And on Monday afternoon, there’s a Pitchfork Live webcast taking place from what’s said to be Jimmy Page’s former Malibu residence (this seems suspicious as we had it good authority he took his holidays in Cliftwood, NJ…or maybe that was Southside Johnny. Hard to remember sometimes)

VIDEO : Julien Baker – “Appointments”

Julien Baker – “Appointments” – directed by Sophia Peer
From the album ‘Turn Out The Lights’, out October 27

“Making the ‘Appointments’ video was an incredibly special experience because I got the pleasure of collaborating with artists I admire and to see them apply their creativity and talent to something I made,” says Baker. “I’ve known Christina McKinney (choreographer), as well as a few of the dancers, since I was a kid. I’ve always been fascinated with how that art form works in tandem with music; it was amazing to see the vision that Christina had for the song, how she interpreted the sounds as movement, and then to see how Sophia chose to portray and capture it all.

“It felt very full circle to return to Memphis to work on this, I’m so proud of Memphis and wanted to show off the immense artistry that I see there. Not only were Christina and many of the characters in the video friends, but the crew also included many people I have known and worked with for years. All the scenes and locations are also central to Memphis, I think Sophia did such a good job of preserving the intimate feel of the video by shooting it with people/in locations that had significance to me, and I’m so thankful. The most gratifying part of making music is its ability to be shared and belong to more people than myself, and it was very meaningful to make something with and for other people, to take something as personal as this song and invite others in, allow them to contribute their ‘thing,’ whatever it may be.” – Julien Baker

“This is a song about not murdering people”

Car Seat Headrest’s “War Is Coming (If You Want It)” premiered earlier today on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 program. The demo version, “War Is Coming (If You Want It) [March Mix],” is no longer available, having been made available for purchase via Bandcamp for just 24 hours on August 4th, to support their fundraiser for the Transgender Law Center. Proceeds from this new version purchased via Bandcamp will continue to be donated to the TLC.

BUY OR STREAM “War Is Coming (If You Want It)”

LYRICS
Last night I dreamed that you’d murdered some kids
Gone up towards the border where the freaks live
I couldn’t tolerate it, yet somehow I did
If it had been on TV I would’ve changed the channel
And afterwards I lay awake for quite some time
And thought about opinions I’d kept
At 5 in the morning I couldn’t tolerate it
How many had died while I slept?

Now is the time to cast Darwin aside
Stop spinning lines that justify the lure of suicide
And reach out your hands
And save someone’s life
Because war is coming
If you want it

She’s keeping quiet in a season of crime
Walking away as if nothing had changed
From that awful display
People are are strange
If they keep on laughing
Nothing will change

Now is the time to cast the screenplay aside
And try to create some space between the lines
To lift up your voice
And change someone’s mind
Because war is coming
If you want it

Coming October 20 : Spoon – ‘Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga’ 2XLP Reissue

On October 20 we’ll be marking the 10th anniversary of Spoon’s breakthrough 2007 album, ‘Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga’ with a double LP reissue including a bonus disc comprising the long out of print / previously available only-on-CD ‘Get Nice’ EP, both encased in a gatefold jacket with revised art. Matador is releasing the album worldwide save for North America where the reissue is handled by Merge, who brought ‘Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga’ into our lives and onto our shelves a decade ago.

Recorded in 2006 in Austin by the band and Mike McCarthy (with the exception of the single, “The Underdog”, recorded in LA by Jon Brion), ‘Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga’ was a high water mark critically and commercially for Spoon at the time, though it’s been a pretty crazy run/unbeaten streak since, too. ALGIERS – ‘The Underside Of Power’, Out Today, New Dates With !!! Announced

“Walk Like A Panther”
(stream the Uniform remix of “Walk Like A Panther” at Spotify)

“A collection of songs that articulates that fury and despair with such authority, it deserves to become the soundtrack for whatever future documentary montage captures the mess of 2017. It’s galvanizing, uncompromising, and uplifting, and it should speak to everyone who still has some fight left in them.” – Sean O’Neal, The A/V Club

Today marks the long-awaited release date for Algiers’ incendiary 2nd album, the critically-acclaimed ‘The Underside Of Power’, available on digital, CD and LP formats at the url below. The first song from the Adrian Utley and Ali Chant-produced masterpiece, “Walk Like A Panther” (featuring a sample culled from a speech by Chicago Black Panther Fred Hampton), can be heard above in lyric video form.

In addition to the previously announced European stadium dates supporting Depeche Mode and this summer’s headlining club shows in North America, Algiers have more US dates happening in September supporting !!! (see below).
