Iceage and Lower in documentary “13 Torches for a Burn”

Earlier this year in Los Angeles, Iceage, Lower and many cohorts from their native Copenhagen convened for the 13 Torches for a Burn festival. The energy was combustible, so the LA Fire Department shut it down. Or so we thought…

Jacqueline Castel‘s short film “13 Torches for a Burn” tells another story. The film, premiered b Nowness this weekend, is a gorgeous transplanted scene report, bands sharing a collective musical story far from home:

Plowing Into The Field of Love by Iceage and Seek Warmer Climes by Lower are both available now.

Iceage were on Revolt TV last week and they were spectacular:

The New Pornographers – NPR First Listen Live from the Brill Building

Last week the New Pornographers launched their new album Brill Bruisers with a memorable concert at the Brill Building, the historic home of songwriting tradition in New York City’s Times Square.

Today, NPR Music has released a full length concert film commemorating the event. Carl, Dan, Neko – the whole gang was there to celebrate:

Carl also had a previous adventure in solitude at the Brill recently:

The New Pornographers’ A.C. Newman: secret Brill Building audition tape revealed

Last week the New Pornographers played a triumphant (no really, they triumphed) concert at the Brill Building in New York City’s Times Square to celebrate the release of their new album Brill Bruisers.

This morning, tape has surfaced (at Funny or Die, of all places) revealing that last week’s concert may not have been Carl “A.C.” Newman’s first trip to the Brill, the historic home of songwriting tradition in New York City:

Stay tuned to NPR Music TODAY (check in at noon Eastern, why dontcha!) for much more on the New Pornographers and Brill Bruisers live from the Brill Building.

Today NPR Music has announced a special concert event with The New Pornographers.

On Thursday September 4th The New Pornographers will perform their new album Brill Bruisers (available now) at the Brill Building as part of NPR Music’s First Listen Live series: AC Newman – a pop songsmith in the grand tradition of Brill Building stalwarts Burt Bacharach, Neil Sedaka, Laura Nyro, Carole King and Lou Reed – celebrates the release of his band’s new album at the historic home of songwriting tradition in New York City’s Times Square. NPR will begin broadcasting the event on Tuesday September 9th.

Follow @nprmusic for opportunities to win tickets over the next week – @matadorrecords and @thenewpornographers will also have some for giveaway.

Savages – “Fuckers” 12″ and single out today, video premieres, Jehnny Beth writes for HuffPo

Today Savages celebrate the year anniversary of their debut album Silence Yourself with the 12″ and digital single “Fuckers/Dream Baby Dream” (buy the single here).

The band also debut a spectacular live video for “Fuckers”, shot at the London Forum and directed by Giorgio Testi:

Finally, Savages lead singer Jehnny Beth has penned a MUST READ blog entry for Huffington Post, “My Year in Savages”:

“The music of Savages was imagined to function like armour. Four women facing the world, facing the industry, protected by their sound : indestructible. And it worked. We came out with a fully-formed aesthetic, controlled vision, direct sound. Some would say austere. But it was the crowds, all around the world, who taught me it was okay to put down the gun.”

Meanwhile, the second of two SAVAGES-curated Pop Noire events takes place in London tonight. Following the first event at The Shacklewell Arms last night (which featured ZZZ’s (Japan), A Dead Forest Index, Bashan (Gemma Thompson, SAVAGES) and a SAVAGES DJ set), the second night takes place at east London’s Birthdays and features Johnny Hostile & Jehnny Beth (Live DJ set), Le Vasco (France) and Romy xx (DJ Set). EMA – “So Blonde”

Today EMA debuted the second track from her upcoming album The Future’s Void, out April 8th. The song is accompanied by a music video collaboration with acclaimed in-tro-net artist Molly Soda, directed by Vice Cooler:

The Future’s Void is available to pre-order on CD, Cassette and LP (limited edition lavender vinyl!), and you can add a shirt at real value. iTunes and Amazon are taking orders, too, if that’s how you slice the pizza.

Erika M. Anderson had this to say about the video:

SO BLONDE. The smiling blonde white woman is the most exploited image in the world. Can we talk about that? How about discussing if the selfie is a new form of feminist art or just a direct descendant of capitalist advertising? No? Hmm… Yeah I couldn’t figure out how to put that into a video either. So how’s about I just roll around Venice Beach wearing a Jim Morrison Tshirt while gifs by Molly Soda bounce in and out? Ok! That works! The semiotics of palm trees! Everyone gets the short-hand of SoCal. It’ll look great, be fun, and still gets to ask the important questions: How many bits do we have to reduce the dancing blonde babe to before she is no longer a symbol of sexiness? At what point do tits become simply bits? And who owns the sparkly dolphin anyway???

EMA is hitting the road soon:

King Krule – “A Lizard State” video debuts

Today Archy and co. released the video for “A Lizard State” from last year’s 6 Feet Beneath The Moon.

The video, directed by Jamie-James Medina and introduced by Alfred Hitchcock, was inspired by Hitchcock’s film Dial M For Murder:

>

Speaking on the video, Medina said:

“Archy and I both love Hitchcock and we’ve spent a lot of time away from music talking about his films. When I heard the phone ringing over the intro all I could think about was Dial M For Murder and the scene where Grace Kelly answers the phone. That really started the conversation. I had this idea of Hitchcock introducing King Krule. I’ve seen every episode of Hitchcock Presents and every introduction that he gives is brilliant – you could use any episode and it would work. We loved the idea of Archy defying gravity and that being the setting for his performance. But right up until shooting we didn’t know if we’d get permission to use the Hitchcock footage – to have him appear. Its such an honor that the Hitchcock estate gave us the opportunity. And then at the very end he said, ‘and the room is full of lizards’, so we had to find a set of lizards and managed to get a guy who entertains at children’s parties.”
