In addition to the aforementioned release event for their Impersonator LP at Brooklyn’s Glasslands Gallery, Majical Cloudz are also set to play a free in-store at Manhattan’s Other Music on Monday May 20 at 8pm.
Majical Cloudz’ tour with Youth Lagoon soldiers on, earning plaudits along the way. And don’t forget to check out “Bugs Don’t Buzz“, which Pitchfork called “beautifully spartan and abandoned music“, and, pre-order ‘Impersonator’ now.

Yo La Tengo’s box office smash North American tour in support of album-of-the-year candidate ‘Fade’ hits the West Coast this week with scalper-bait shows at LA’s Fonda Theatre (Thursday) and a pair of nights at San Francisco’s venerable Fillmore (Friday and Saturday). Though Ira, Georgia and James have done a number of radio sessions already in 2013, they’ve not visited KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” in far too long (OK, there’s probably more recent appearances, but this was the first one to pop up in a search).
Tomorrow morning, “far too long” becomes, “no, they’re on right now”. Tune in Wednesday at 11:15am Pacific time (2:15 pm eastern, 7:15pm for our friends in the United Kingdom) and you’ll hear Yo La Tengo playing, well, whatever they feel like, as well as chatting with MBE host Jason Bentley. Admittedly, I’m guessing about the chat portion, but anything else would be kind of rude, don’t you think?
‘Fade’ – available from the Matador Store on LP, CD and digital formats
(ADDENDUM : Hector reminds me that Yo La Tengo last appeared on KCRW in 2000. My apologies — I’m new here!)
This week we are hugely excited to be releasing the debut album from London’s Savages – the record that Pitchfork called “one of rock’s most commanding and ferociously poised debuts in recent years.” (Pitchfork Best New Music 8.7)
Silence Yourself is the Rough Trade Album of the Month for May and last night the band performed at a packed Rough Trade East in support. It felt like a big moment for the band, the day the album is released in the UK, surrounded by family and friends and a huge line of devoted fans formed to say hi to the band after. First in the queue was none other but Thurston Moore: “Awesome band! Got to meet them afterwards!” I’m not sure who was more starstruck. Testament to their incredible live show.
For those that haven’t been able to catch the band live yet, this week there will be a live webstream of their headline release-week London show at legendary Ministry Of Sound nightclub on Thursday 9th May at 9.15pm GMT / 4.15pm EST / 1.15pm PST.
In conjunction with The Creators Project and with creative direction from DARYL, the band’s performance on Thursday evening will be in-the-round, (Thunderdome style!) with the crowd surrounding the band. The set will be filmed in full and will be available to view LIVE via a webcast at The Creators Project YouTube Channel. Truly not to be missed.

Following the cryptic surfacing of the likeclockwork.tv and its hazy semi-clues and last night’s Adult Swim ad, Queens Of The Stone Age have unveiled a trailer scored by three minutes of the never-before-heard “I Appear Missing,” which appears in its entirety on the band’s upcoming ‘… Like Clockwork’, out June 4 on Matador Records.
Showcasing disturbingly beautiful (or beautifully disturbing?) images from the boundless imagination of … Like Clockwork visual visionary, enigmatic UK artist Boneface (brought to life by animator Liam Brazier), “I Appear Missing” is a hypnotic journey into a nightmare-scape that adds illustrative dimension to another audio glimpse of the coming storm that is … Like Clockwork. Keep Your Eyes peeled on likeclockwork.tv to see what happens next…
Described by Queens principal Joshua Homme as “an audio documentary of a manic year,” … Like Clockwork is the band’s first full length collection of all new material since 2007’s Era Vulgaris, as well as its debut release on new label partner Matador. The record can be pre-ordered on CD and vinyl now from and from iTunes . All pre-orders will immediately receive “My God Is The Sun,” which has been generating some early heat at:
“(FOUR STARS) the band’s most gloriously motorik chug since those early days… takes off like a trip to the Mushroom Planet as Homme croons about desert roads to nowhere and praises the sun like he never gets tired of staring at it… Breathe deep”–ROLLING STONE
“an appropriately gnarly 4/4 monster, recalling their hardest hitting early material. As Homme gazes in awe at the sun’s omnipresent embrace, rock die-hards have ample time to hail the Queens’ revival”–BILLBOARD
… Like Clockwork was produced by Joshua Homme and QOTSA, recorded by Mark Rankinwith additional engineering by Justin Smith, at Josh’s studio, Pink Duck, in Burbank, California.
Queens of the Stone Age are: Joshua Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen, Dean Fertita and Michael Shuman. Jon Theodore plays drums live (and on the new record’s title track). See below for tour dates and check back at the following for updates:
